It is a type of fiber in a raw or undyed skein. They exist of different origin; animal or vegetable, different thicknesses, composition and can have superwash treatment or not.

The best known fibers of vegetable origin are Cotton and Linen.

Among those of animal origin there are wool from sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, yaks, angora rabbits, silkworms, etc. Sheep are the most popular suppliers of wool and there are more than 200 different breeds of sheep today, which offer us various types of wool, whether they are wavy curls, fine or thick hair.

A very high quality wool is merino wool that comes from the merino sheep and is distinguished by its special fineness and softness.

Fineness is determined by the average fiber diameter. The larger the diameter of the fiber, the more the wool will sting and vice versa.

The quality of wool is measured in MICRONS. A micron is one millionth of a meter.
